The Countryman’s Inn in Hunton is now a community owned Pub.
Completion was delayed by difficulties with central Government, but new tenants Lisa and Dan were in place in time for the Hunton Steam Fair thanks to the persistence of members of the Countryman's Community Pub Society.
Getting the new tenants in before the Fair was vitally important, as it generates such a huge amount of income for the pub, and allowed the residents to celebrate in proper style…
Now the tenants are in, there has already been a huge amount of energy, with plans for wine tastings, bands and Halloween events already in place. You can stay updated by liking their Facebook page.
The Countryman’s was purchased using funds from the The Community Ownership Fund. This was set up by Rishi Sunak MP, as Chancellor, to help communities buy and protect their most precious assets, inspired by local success stories like The Green Dragon at Exelby, The George and Dragon in Hudswell and Cllr Jones’ old local, The Foresters Arms at Carlton in Coverdale.
Tom commented; ‘Cheers to everyone involved in this. I know it's been a lot of work, but everyone at the Countryman's Community Pub Society should be incredibly proud of this huge achievement, which will help Hunton flourish into the future. I wish the Countryman’s, and Dan and Lisa, every success.’
