Harmby and Spenni put pints before profit
Residents of Spennithorne and Harmby aim to buy their pub
Many will be aware that a planning application has spurred residents of Spennithorne and Harmby to begin the process of trying to buy The Old Horn Inn as a community.
The Old Horn Community Group was quickly formed, and has been proceeding with registering the pub as an Asset of Community Value, which will give the community a six month timeframe in order to buy the pub. Tom has been heavily involved in the process so far, attending every meeting of the OHCG and meeting with the pub’s current landlords.
Following numerous questions and requests for further information, the Old Horn Community Group held a public meeting last week, which was well attended by those interested in the pub’s future. This was designed to give as much information as possible to those who were planning to respond to the call for funding, were undecided or were just curious for more information.
The OHCG holds regular and constructive meetings with the current landlords and the planning application has now been withdrawn. Tom is hoping a positive outcome for everyone can be found.
‘I’d like to commend everyone for the constructive way they’ve engaged on this issue. This isn’t a situation anyone wants to be in, and they can often cause communities to be riven apart. But the OLCG and landlords are making great progress together, and I hope the group go the distance.’
‘It’s great to see energetic community leadership like this, to see people standing up for themselves and taking a real civic pride in where they live and what their community looks like.’
The ACV application is now submitted and fundraising is close to reaching it’s target. For those who would like more information about this project, please email the OHCG at; oldhorn.community@gmail.com
